6-Day Maasai Mara Lake Nakuru and Samburu Big Cat Safari
Day by Day Tour Itinerary
Our safari guide will pick you up from your hotel and depart by road driving through the rich Kikuyu farmlands to the edge of the Rift Valley. Descend the escarpment and drive via Narok to Masai Mara National Reserve with a picnic lunch served en route. The Masai Mara is classic African savannah, and the sheer density of wildlife is amazing. Masai Mara is famous for its black manned lion and yearly migrations of wildebeest and zebra. Elephant, buffalo, rhino, gazelle, leopard, and giraffe are also found here. Have an afternoon game drive. Dinner and your overnight stay are at a safari camp or lodge.
After breakfast, you will go for a full day spent viewing and exploring this spectacular national park. Wherever you go in the Mara, you will see an astonishing amount of wildlife. Of the big cats, lions are found in large prides everywhere. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but are still fairly common. Return to your safari camps or lodge in the evening for dinner and your overnight stay.
After breakfast, depart Masai Mara for Lake Nakuru with a picnic lunch en route. On arrival, check-in at Lake Nakuru Lodge and have lunch. A short nap will be followed by an afternoon game drive. Lake Nakuru is famous for its pink flamingos and many other types of birds. There are rare species of animals, the white rhino and Rothschild giraffe among a wide variety of game. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Lake Nakuru Lodge.
Depart Nakuru after breakfast proceeding to Samburu National Reserve on the fringes of the semi-arid northern frontier district of Kenya. A picnic lunch will be hosted at Thomson Falls. The scenic Nakuru-Nyahururu road passes through the hub of Kenya’s food basket and an insight into the living situation of the local population is visible. Arrive in Samburu in the late afternoon. Enjoy game viewing en-route to your lodge for check-in. Have dinner and your overnight stay in a lodge or luxury camp.
The whole day will be spent in Samburu National Reserve. The arid conditions have provided a habitat for distinct animal survival. Here we will find animals resident to this park only such as the reticulated giraffe, the Grevy zebra, the gerenuk, Somali ostrich, lion, elephant, cheetah, buffalo and crocodile at the Ewaso Nyiro River which is the lifeline of the Samburu National Reserve. Other species of game are also found here. All meals and your overnight stay are in the same lodge or luxury camp.
Have an early morning game drive and later come back to the lodge for breakfast. Have an optional game drive before the return journey to Nairobi with lunch en-route. After lunch, take a leisurely drive admiring tea, coffee, sisal and pineapple plantations. You will arrive Nairobi in the early evening. You’ll be dropped off at your resident hotel or airport.
